Rather as the moon landing was “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” I have taken “one small step for me, and one giant leap in my mind” (it even rhymes with the original!). Unfortunately, a lot of the creative process is like that — the milestones are subtle and personal and not much to crow about. But I’m going to crow about this one: I put one of my web creations on itch.io, home of many indie games: Twelve Days.
In case you haven’t seen it before, it’s something like a fable or a piece of flash fiction in what a friend called the form of a reverse Advent calendar — instead of counting down to Christmas you count up to the Twelfth Night. (It’s not actually Christmas-themed, though certainly it shares associations with Christmas in my mind; the twelve days correspond in my mind not only to the twelve days of Christmas but also to the twelve months of the year).
This means something to me because I’m considering putting most of my work on itch.io eventually, as I turn it into digital experiences. It’s exciting taking the first step toward trying out something like this, whether it winds up being my final direction or not.
